Being Present Starts with Self Awareness

Updated: Jun 20, 2025

Be Present.

That's how I kick off my daily 7-point checklist.

I don't usually spend more than a few minutes focusing on being present every morning, but I'll check back in throughout the day.

For me Being Present has four parts:

  • Being Self-Aware

  • Being Mindful

  • Being Engaged

  • Being Self-Regulated

Being Self-Aware is an integral of my Being Present practice.

Every morning, I reflect on my:

  • Actions

  • Choices

  • Situation

  • Impact

  • Progress

Kind Self-Awareness

We often spend too much time being more self-critical than self-aware, and nothing kills my vibe faster than being my own critic.

Being able to reflect on who we are. Who we think we are, who others think we are, who we're becoming, and sometimes who others want or need us to be is a big part of Self Awareness.

Everyone wants to be the hero of their own story. But sometimes we need to take a supporting role. It's not always about you. And that's what Self-Awareness is about.

While remembering that whoever we are at any moment, we'll never be that same person again, because we are constantly evolving.

Who we are at any moment is just a single data point in our chart of life.

Let's take a moment to jot it down in our life journals and keep moving forward with kindness.
